Hello,
Yoga is an exercise where I focus on being present in the practice. To connect to the present by focusing on the breath for me represents being gentle in the way I move my body.
There are different styles of Yoga, but when I want to do it, I enjoy doing the videos from Adriene.
She makes at the start of every year a 30-day challenge to start the year by building the daily habit of doing yoga and tuning in with ourselves. They are all available, and I decided to do the 2017’s one REVOLUTION.
My reasons for embracing this journey were mainly two. First, I noticed that on some days I had time and the need to add more movement to my day, but not a full sweaty workout. And Yoga sounds like a nice fit.
However, what made me commit to a 30-day challenge, was that I was doing a diet and as I normally do, I was weighing myself every day to track progress. And once my reaction to the number on the scale was not the best. I felt sad and disappointed and deeply affected by that. feeling that I was failing and not being disciplined enough to achieve my goal of weight loss. Something that I need to do, and I am doing for health reasons. And I treat the weigh as a data point, but I know is not the ultimate metric to define health.
Therefore with the intention of honoring my body and to cultivate being kind to myself, I started the Revolution challenge.
Each session, around 30 minutes has a topic and a word for it. It normally starts with getting into the mat, setting the intentions and celebrating the fact of showing up, which I appreciate since it sets the mood to dedicate my attention to the practice, and myself and helps get everything else that I need to worry about in pause.
I had some good days and bad days. The bad days were when my mind drifted to something else, which in this practice it is okay. We need to acknowledge how we arrived and our state and continue. But even on the ‘bad days’ I still felt proud every time for dedicating time to yoga. That for me really corresponds to time to honor the body.
Normally, I am a lot of times in my mind, focused on what I think, and what I can produce. and about learning and acquiring knowledge. Therefore, It is important to dedicate time to balance it. To quiet the mind and connect to the body, sensations and emotions and how much it accomplishes everyday.
I would recommend everyone to have a similar exercise in order to find a balance between the mind and body. As it is important to get hobbies like reading or learning a language to keep the mind sharp, we should also workout the body and connect to it gently. For me, at the moment Yoga is a great practice to achieve it.
Weekly assessment:
🖊️ Writing
I had more time in the longer weekend, to dedicate to writing and found a good topic to dive into, which helps when there is something straightforward like AI concepts and from which I can get some links and resources and create a text of something that it is useful for me, that I am learning, but also useful to share.
What I been doing:
📗 Start listening/reading to Tress of Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson
It is a delightful story about Tress, who without much intent to abandon her small town, leaves it and goes on a pirate adventure to go and rescue her love.
